Delhi Airport Issues Advisory for Non-CAT III Compliant Flights Due to Fog
Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has issued an advisory in response to the dense fog conditions that have blanketed the city, potentially affecting flights that are not CAT III compliant. The advisory was shared on social media platforms, with the airport authorities urging passengers to contact their respective airlines for the latest updates on flight statuses.
Despite the prevailing weather conditions, flight operations, including landings and take-offs, continue at Delhi airport. However, due to the limited visibility caused by fog, aircraft that are not equipped with Category III (CAT III) instrumentation may face delays or disruptions. CAT III compliant flights are capable of landing and taking off in low-visibility conditions, ensuring minimal operational impact during poor weather. Delhi airport authorities expressed their regret over any inconvenience caused and encouraged passengers to stay informed by reaching out to the airlines for real-time updates. This advisory underscores the importance of the airport’s preparedness to manage flight operations, even when the weather conditions are challenging. In addition to the fog, Delhi’s air quality is a concern, with the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 348, placing it in the ‘very poor’ category. This is a significant rise in pollution levels, as AQI readings between 301 and 400 fall under the ‘very poor’ range, with the potential to impact health, especially for those with respiratory conditions. The government has deployed 235 pagoda tents and established night shelters in key locations like AIIMS, Lodhi Road, and Nizamuddin flyover to accommodate people in need. Residents of the capital, struggling with the drop in temperatures, have also been seen gathering around bonfires, seeking warmth, as the winter chill continues to affect the city.
