Delhi Airport Flight Operations Disrupted As Bad Weather Forces Diversions And Delays

Delhi witnessed another bout of monsoon disruption on Wednesday evening as heavy rains and thunderstorms led to significant air traffic disturbances at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. A total of six flights were diverted due to adverse weather conditions—four rerouted to Jaipur and two to Lucknow—while numerous other flights faced delays.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather advisory forecasting moderate to intense rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning, across Delhi and the surrounding NCR region. These conditions resulted in visibility and safety challenges, compelling air traffic control to make urgent adjustments to flight operations.

Delhi’s IGI Airport, one of the busiest in the country with over 1,300 flight movements daily, struggled to maintain schedule integrity under the weather stress. The disruptions caused a ripple effect, delaying departures and arrivals for several hours.

As the capital continues to navigate through an active monsoon season, airport authorities remain on high alert, coordinating closely with IMD and airline operators to minimize passenger inconvenience and maintain safety.
