Delhi Accelerates Key Infra Project To Ease West And Outer Traffic

Delhi is set to gain significant relief from persistent traffic congestion in its western and outer regions, following a strong push for the speedy construction of a crucial underpass and flyover. On Thursday, a city minister emphasized the importance of completing this infrastructure project, located at the intersection of Urban Extension Road-II and the Gurgaon-Jaipur Highway. Being built by the National Highways Authority of India, this initiative aims to alleviate daily bottlenecks, reduce fuel consumption, and improve air quality for thousands of commuters traversing the strategic corridor. This reflects a commitment to long-term urban mobility solutions.

This vital infrastructure project is specifically designed to address the long-standing issue of heavy traffic in west and outer Delhi, where millions of vehicles pass through daily, leading to considerable time loss, increased fuel consumption, and heightened air pollution. Positioned at a strategic junction connecting key areas like Najafgarh, Dwarka, Rohini, and National Highway 8, the integrated flyover and underpass system is expected to significantly ease traffic load and decrease reliance on already overcrowded alternative routes. A minister involved in urban development noted that the underpass forms a critical component of the broader Urban Extension Road-II project within Delhi, particularly the Dwarka Expressway section near the city’s international airport. This comprehensive design, including elevated viaducts and bridges, aims to drastically improve connectivity and reduce travel time between various parts of Delhi and neighboring Gurugram.

During an inspection of the stretch, the minister, accompanied by an environment minister, stressed the need for practical and lasting solutions to the city’s traffic woes. The environment minister highlighted that addressing severe traffic congestion directly contributes to controlling pollution, which significantly increases due to idling vehicles. Both officials underscored that timely completion, technical accuracy, and citizen-focused planning are paramount to the project’s success, promising regular reviews to ensure accountability. Traffic congestion has long plagued Shiv Murti Chowk in Dwarka, a notorious bottleneck due to the convergence of traffic from Dwarka Expressway, Kapashera, and National Highway 48. Once completed, these projects are anticipated to provide major relief from traffic jams not just for Delhi residents but also for commuters in the neighboring National Capital Region areas.

This concerted push for crucial infrastructure development at a major Delhi traffic confluence signals a strong commitment to urban improvement. By decongesting vital corridors, the project promises to reduce travel times, lower pollution, and enhance overall quality of life for residents. Such strategic investments are essential for future-proofing Delhi’s growth and ensuring smoother regional connectivity.
