New Delhi: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has initiated a comprehensive effort to rejuvenate and upgrade parks situated behind the iconic Red Fort and along the historic stone walls of the Walled City. Focusing on parks such as Dilli Chalo, Ghata Masjid, Urdu Academy, and Sadbhavna, the DDA aims to create vibrant green spaces for public enjoyment, reminiscent of the serene ambiance found at Kartavya Path near India Gate.
The revitalization project, spanning 35 acres and extending 1.7 km along Ring Road, encompasses the transformation of these parks into diverse recreational zones, blending elements of formal gardens, neighbourhood parks, and Mughal-style landscapes. Emphasizing aesthetic appeal, the design incorporates ornamental fountains strategically placed within the green spaces. For Dilli Chalo Park, situated behind the Red Fort, the plan includes the creation of a Mughal Char Bagh, featuring a formal axis accentuating the architectural elements of the historic fort. The design integrates water features, lush floral plantations, and seating areas, complemented by decorative artifacts and enhanced lighting to elevate the visual allure. Additionally, provisions are made for parking spaces, vendor zones, and public amenities to ensure a seamless visitor experience.
Similarly, Ghata Masjid and Urdu Academy parks are being reimagined as neighbourhood parks catering to the needs of local residents. These parks will offer various amenities such as seating pavilions, playgrounds, yoga lawns, and public facilities, enhancing community engagement and well-being. The use of eco-friendly materials and landscaping techniques underscores the DDA’s commitment to sustainable urban development. At Sadbhavana Park, a French-inspired landscape design awaits, featuring a majestic water feature inspired by Apollo’s fountain at the Palace of Versailles. With elements like amphitheatres, food courts, and lush lawns, the park promises to be a cultural and recreational hub for visitors.
By leveraging innovative design principles and meticulous planning, the DDA aims to transform these parks into vibrant urban oases, fostering a sense of community, leisure, and environmental stewardship for residents and visitors alike.
