DDA ice skating rink in Dwarka set for Oct 2025

Delhi is set to welcome its first international-level ice skating rink by October 2025, with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) confirming progress at its new sports complex in Dwarka Sector 23.

The rink will be a key highlight in a 17-acre facility that also includes hockey and football grounds, reflecting the DDA’s broader push to develop world-class sports infrastructure in the national capital. Officials from the DDA said the construction of the ice rink is nearing completion. A tender has been issued to invite professional sports agencies to operate and maintain the facility once it becomes operational. The project is part of a larger initiative that includes two more sports complexes in Dwarka—one in Sector 8 spanning 23 acres and another in Sector 19 covering 19 acres. These centres are being developed with a focus on inclusivity, sustainability, and high-performance training, aiming to establish Centres of Excellence (CoEs) across multiple sports. As per the DDA’s plan, the Sector 8 complex will house CoEs for boxing, wrestling, judo, and karate, while Sector 19 will specialise in tennis and shooting. Sector 23, in addition to the ice rink, will provide facilities for hockey and football.

According to the tender details, the operator for the Sector 8 complex will also be responsible for building hostel accommodations and supplying both sports and non-sports equipment. The DDA has already procured part of the required infrastructure, with the rest to be arranged by the concessionaire. In its April budget, the DDA allocated ₹250 crore towards the development of new sports complexes, including the facilities in Dwarka, Rohini, and near the Dwarka Golf Course. The CoE at Sector 8 was inaugurated by Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena on May 8. Sector 19’s complex is expected to be ready by July 2025, while the Sector 23 ice skating rink and related amenities are scheduled for launch in October 2025. Lt Governor Saxena highlighted the DDA’s commitment to nurturing sporting talent across disciplines, noting that professional coaching in sports like boxing, wrestling, weightlifting, and taekwondo will also be offered at these facilities.

At present, the DDA operates 17 sports complexes and three golf courses across Delhi, with more state-of-the-art facilities in the pipeline to promote grassroots and elite-level sports.
