Darbhanga-Gomtinagar Amrit Bharat Express Begins Weekly Service to Enhance Passenger Travel
Darbhanga is set to launch a new weekly Amrit Bharat Express service to Gomtinagar starting July 26, introducing a budget-friendly yet modern rail travel option. This strategic addition to the railway network aims to significantly enhance connectivity across key regions, providing an accessible and comfortable commuting experience for thousands. The initiative underscores a commitment to fostering sustainable transportation solutions and promoting equitable access to essential services for diverse populations.
The brand-new service, comprising 22 non-air-conditioned coaches, is meticulously designed to cater to a wide spectrum of passengers, offering both general and sleeper class options. Train 15561, departing from Darbhanga every Saturday at 3:00 PM, is scheduled to reach Gomtinagar at 5:30 AM the following day. Conversely, Train 15562 will depart from Gomtinagar every Sunday at 8:15 AM, arriving in Darbhanga at 12:40 AM on Monday. This journey, spanning approximately 14 hours and 30 minutes, includes crucial stops at Sitamarhi, Raxaul, Gorakhpur, and Ayodhya Cantt, thereby integrating vital regional hubs into a more cohesive transport network.
Despite its non-air-conditioned status, this Amrit Bharat Express is far from basic, boasting a modern aesthetic with a bold red and grey exterior. The interior features Vande Bharat-like seating in appealing orange and grey tones, enhancing the passenger experience. Each seat is equipped with essential amenities such as mobile charging points, holders, and bottle slots, catering to the contemporary traveller’s needs. For added safety and security, the train is fitted with CCTV cameras and a talk-back system, ensuring a secure and responsive environment for all passengers, thereby contributing to a gender-neutral and equitable travel experience.
The seating arrangements are designed for optimal comfort and capacity, with general coach benches accommodating four passengers and sleeper seats comfortably seating three. A key highlight of this service is its affordability, with a ticket from Darbhanga to Gomtinagar priced at just ₹415. This economical fare makes it an ideal choice for budget-conscious travellers who prioritise comfort and convenience without compromising on quality. Such affordable public transport options are crucial for reducing reliance on less sustainable modes of travel, directly contributing to a zero net carbon future.
This new rail service is poised to deliver substantial socio-economic benefits to the regions it connects. By providing reliable and affordable transportation, it will facilitate easier access to employment opportunities, educational institutions, and healthcare services, particularly for residents in remote areas. The enhanced connectivity will also stimulate local economies by supporting trade and tourism. Ultimately, the introduction of the Amrit Bharat Express is a significant step towards building more sustainable, connected, and equitable cities, ensuring that efficient and accessible public transport serves the larger interests of society.
