The Coldplay concert at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera has caused a seismic surge in Metro ridership, with over 4 lakh passengers using the service over just two days. The Ahmedabad Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) reported a record passenger count of 2,13,735 on Saturday and 1,91,529 on Sunday, marking the highest-ever traffic in the Metro’s history. This massive influx of passengers, attributed to the globally famous band’s performance, reflects the growing reliance on Metro services for large-scale events in the city.
The concert, which attracted thousands of fans, saw an additional one lakh passengers using the metro over the weekend compared to the typical ridership. GMRC’s data indicates that nearly 50,000 extra people each day opted for the Metro, clearly highlighting the shift in public transport preferences for major events. To accommodate the surge in demand, GMRC extended service hours until 12:30 am for the Motera to APMC and Vastral Gam to Thaltej Gam routes. In addition to the regular 313 daily trips, 93 extra trips were added on Saturday, and a staggering 114 on Sunday.
