Coimbatore Corporation Seeks ₹11 Crore Funds for School Revamp

The Coimbatore City Corporation has submitted a proposal to the state government seeking Rs 11 crore to enhance the infrastructure of its schools. This request is part of a broader initiative to provide better facilities and learning environments for students across the city’s educational institutions.

The corporation operates a total of 148 schools, which include 83 primary schools, 38 middle schools, 10 high schools, and 17 higher secondary schools. According to a corporation official, various infrastructure improvements are currently underway to address the needs of these schools and ensure students receive a quality education. In a recent development, Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran convened a meeting with the headmasters of all corporation schools to discuss their developmental needs. During the meeting, headmasters highlighted the basic requirements necessary for their respective schools. Following this discussion, the commissioner personally inspected over 10 schools, including the girls’ higher secondary school in Selvapuram, and primary and middle schools in Annuparpalayam, to assess their infrastructure needs firsthand.

The proposal for Rs 11 crore aims to address critical infrastructure gaps identified during these inspections and discussions. The funds will be used to upgrade facilities, improve classroom environments, and provide essential resources to enhance the overall educational experience for students.

Corporation commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran said, “We have requested 11 crores from the state government to establish new classrooms, additional toilets, labs, smart classrooms and paver blocks in 26 schools. Some schools need levelling of playgrounds and water facilities. We are also taking measures to develop infrastructure with our own funds.”

This initiative underscores the corporation’s commitment to investing in education and ensuring that schools have the necessary infrastructure to support effective learning. By securing the requested funds, the Coimbatore City Corporation hopes to significantly improve the educational facilities and contribute to the academic success of its students.
