Additionally, malfunctioning surveillance cameras and inoperative public announcement systems have further compounded the issues, amplifying public frustration. The disrepair extends beyond the streets. Essential facilities such as the passenger waiting rooms at the local bus stand, as well as welcome gates along Badod and Nageshwar roads, are reported to be in a dilapidated state. These deficiencies have not only disrupted daily life but also raised concerns about the town’s readiness for managing seasonal rains.
A coalition of eight councillors from both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress has jointly approached the Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) with a detailed letter addressing 40 critical issues. The letter highlights the urgent need for infrastructure repairs and improvements across the town. Despite these pressing concerns, a scheduled council meeting intended to address these grievances has been postponed, further fuelling dissatisfaction among the public and political leaders alike. One notable grievance is the deteriorated condition of the road leading to the Anadi Kalpeshwar Mahadev temple, a significant pilgrimage site, especially during the Sawan month. The poor state of this road has drawn particular ire from the local community and visiting devotees.
Congress councillors have been vocal in their criticism, with accusations of widespread corruption within the civic administration. They allege that the council’s reluctance to hold a meeting is a deliberate attempt to obscure its inefficacy in handling infrastructure issues. In a rebuttal, the municipal council vice president acknowledged the challenges facing Alot’s infrastructure. The vice president attributed the delay in convening the council meeting to constraints imposed by the electoral code. Nonetheless, he assured that pending proposals for development and road repair initiatives will be prioritised and expedited.
