The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has announced a significant fare reduction of up to 33%, effective September 7, 2024. This fare adjustment aims to make the Navi Mumbai Metro a more attractive option for daily commuters, with new rates designed to enhance affordability and accessibility.
Under the revised fare structure, the minimum ticket price will be reduced to Rs. 10, while the maximum fare will now be Rs. 30. The updated fare breakdown is as follows: Rs. 10 for trips between 0 to 2 km and 2 to 4 km, Rs. 20 for journeys between 4 to 6 km and 6 to 8 km, and Rs. 30 for distances beyond 8 km. Previously, a journey from Belapur Terminal to Pendhar cost Rs. 40, but this has now been lowered to Rs. 30. CIDCO’s Managing Director emphasised that the fare cut is part of an effort to familiarise more people with the Metro service, which provides a convenient link between Belapur railway station and Pendhar.
“This revised fare structure will benefit both short and long-distance commuters. We encourage residents to take full advantage of this service,” he stated. Since its launch on November 17, the Navi Mumbai Metro Corridor 1, which connects Taloja and the residential areas of Kharghar, has seen approximately 3.6 million passengers. CIDCO officials believe that the fare reduction will further increase the number of users, particularly as new residential projects continue to expand in the Taloja area.
“The 33% fare reduction is intended to attract more commuters to the service, which is crucial given the growing residential developments in Taloja. It is our responsibility to support the commuting needs of new residents,” added a CIDCO spokesperson. This fare reduction initiative aligns with CIDCO’s broader objective of improving urban mobility and supporting the growing infrastructure demands of Navi Mumbai.
