CIDCO Cracks Down on Illegal Dumping in Navi Mumbai

The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has escalated its crackdown on illegal debris dumping, taking legal action against an offender in the Ulwe area. The move comes as part of CIDCO’s ongoing efforts to protect the environment and ensure sustainable urban development in the region.

On February 10, during a routine inspection, CIDCO’s Chief Security Officer, along with a team from the Security and Engineering Departments and local police, intercepted a dumper truck involved in illegal dumping activities at Gavhan village in Ulwe. The dumper, identified by registration number MH-46-AR-1008, was caught in the act of disposing of debris on a plot earmarked for future development. The driver of the truck, Somnath Mahale (44), a resident of Krishna Patil Chawl in Ghanasoli, was apprehended at approximately 5:30 PM. CIDCO officials highlighted the severe environmental risks associated with unauthorized debris dumping. “This kind of activity not only disrupts the development plans but also poses significant environmental hazards, endangers public health, and threatens local biodiversity,” a CIDCO spokesperson stated.

The corporation has registered a case with the Nhava Sheva Police, and legal proceedings have been initiated under sections 271 and 62 of the BNS Act. In addition to taking legal action against offenders, CIDCO has urged the public to report any instances of unauthorized dumping through its official website, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining a clean and sustainable environment. This incident underscores CIDCO’s determination to curb environmental violations, especially as Navi Mumbai continues to expand rapidly. With a robust framework of inspections and stringent enforcement, the corporation aims to safeguard the city’s future growth and prevent such illegal activities that could jeopardise the city’s development and public welfare. As CIDCO moves forward with its mission, the authorities have reiterated the need for vigilance and public cooperation in ensuring that Navi Mumbai remains a model for sustainable urban development.
