The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) has awarded a Rs 258 crore project to a consortium comprising SPML Infra and JWIL Infra.
This initiative aims to address the escalating water demands of Chennai’s expanding population and enhance the sustainability of its urban water supply systems. The project encompasses the construction, testing, and commissioning of a new reservoir in Porur, strategically located to augment the city’s water storage capacity. Complementing this, the development of a pumping station and associated infrastructure in the Perur and Porur regions will facilitate efficient water distribution across the city. These enhancements are expected to significantly improve the reliability and resilience of Chennai’s water supply network.
A standout feature of this initiative is the long-term Operation and Maintenance (O&M) commitment. The consortium is tasked with overseeing the upkeep and efficient functioning of the entire infrastructure for 20 years, ensuring sustained service delivery and asset longevity. This long-term approach underscores the project’s focus on sustainability and operational excellence.
