Chennai To Thiruvananthapuram Special Trains Announced For Passengers

The Southern Railway has announced the operation of special trains between Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram to meet rising travel demands, particularly during peak periods and festive seasons. Officials from the Salem division stated that the service aims to provide convenient, safe, and efficient rail travel while reducing congestion on regular trains.

The special train No. 06075 will depart Chennai Egmore at 10:15 PM on September 30, 2025, and is scheduled to arrive at Thiruvananthapuram North at 2:05 PM the following day. The return service, train No. 06076, will leave Thiruvananthapuram North at 4:30 PM on October 5 to reach Chennai Egmore by 10:30 AM the next day. Railway officials highlighted that the trains will halt at 21 stations en route, including Perambur, Tiruvallur, Arakkonam, Katpadi, Jolarpet, Salem, Erode, Tirupur, Podanur, Palakkad, Thrissur, Aluva, Ernakulam Town, Kottayam, Changanasseri, Tiruvalla, Chengannur, Mavelikara, Kayamkulam, Kollam, and Varkala. These stops have been selected to ensure optimal connectivity for passengers travelling for business, education, and tourism purposes.

Experts from the Southern Railway noted that special trains are part of a broader initiative to enhance passenger-centric services while supporting sustainable transportation solutions. “By optimising train schedules and increasing service frequency, we are able to encourage rail travel, which is far more eco-friendly compared to road transport. Electrified rail networks contribute to reduced carbon emissions and a greener transport ecosystem,” a senior official explained. The special train services will be managed by trained personnel to ensure passenger comfort, safety, and adherence to operational standards. Railway engineers and station managers are actively coordinating to maintain punctuality and streamline boarding and deboarding processes, while security teams ensure compliance with safety protocols.

From a strategic perspective, these special services are expected to enhance tourism and commerce between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, connecting major urban and semi-urban centres along the route. By providing additional rail capacity, authorities aim to alleviate pressure on standard services, prevent overcrowding, and ensure that travel remains accessible and reliable for all demographic segments. Officials emphasised that passengers are encouraged to book in advance, and all environmental considerations, including minimising operational energy use and ensuring waste management on board, have been implemented in line with the Southern Railway’s sustainability initiatives.

With these measures, the Southern Railway underscores its commitment to creating an efficient, sustainable, and equitable rail system that aligns with broader urban and regional development objectives while fostering greener, low-carbon mobility solutions.
