Residents across several neighbourhoods in Chennai will face a scheduled power shutdown on Wednesday, May 28, as Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) carries out essential maintenance work.
The outage will begin at 9 am and is expected to last until 2 pm, though supply may be restored earlier if the work is completed ahead of schedule. The affected areas span three major zones: Tambaram, Ambattur, and Tiruverkadu. In Tambaram, the power cut will impact Rajakilpakkam Camp Road, Velachery Main Road, Bharathi Park Street, Karnam Street, Madha Kovil Street, Nelluramman Kovil Street, Palaiyathan Street, New Balaji Nagar and its Extension, Lora Street, Aavai Nagar, Kannan Nagar, IOB Colony, Chitlapakkam GST Road, and the areas surrounding Siddha Hospital and Sanatorium. Sundaram Colony (1st, 2nd, 3rd Main Street), SV Koil Street, VV Koil Street, Railway Border Road, and other adjacent streets like Amara Jeeva Street, Vedhandam Colony, and Kumaran Street are also listed.
In Ambattur, the outage will affect JJ Nagar Church Road, Trinity Church Road, OV Joseph Street, Lisa Ponnammal Street, and several connecting streets such as Bakkiam Street, Selvi Jayakumar Street, and Rathinavel Pandiyan Street. Residents of GG Nagar will also experience a power halt during the maintenance window. Tiruverkadu areas under disruption include Mahalakshmi College vicinity, Sundhara Chozhapuram, Ram Nagar, Sundhara Vinayaga Nagar, Chelliamman Nagar, Green Park, and Sakkareswari Nagar. Tangedco officials have urged residents in these zones to plan their electricity-dependent activities accordingly.
These routine shutdowns are part of ongoing infrastructure maintenance to ensure reliable power distribution, especially ahead of the upcoming monsoon season.
