IndiGo is set to enhance air connectivity between Tiruchy and Chennai by operating six daily flights from March 29, reflecting renewed demand and strategic route planning. The move signals a rebound in domestic air travel and promises improved accessibility for business and leisure passengers in Tamil Nadu, while contributing to regional economic integration.
The Tiruchy–Chennai corridor, a critical link for commerce, education, and tourism, had seen a significant reduction in service earlier this year, when flight frequencies dropped to two per day. This constrained travel options, particularly for time-sensitive business trips and student commuters, and placed pressure on alternative modes of transport. Following a phased reintroduction of regional ATR aircraft earlier this year, the airline now aims to fully restore its original schedule, blending operational efficiency with passenger convenience.
Industry experts note that reinstating six daily flights offers multiple benefits. Firstly, it aligns with the growing need for flexible travel schedules in the post-pandemic environment. Business travellers, particularly in Chennai’s industrial and IT hubs, and educational commuters to Tiruchy, benefit from increased flexibility, reducing dependency on road transport and associated environmental impacts.
