Chennai residents in parts of Pallavaram are set to experience an eight-hour power outage on Monday, 18 August 2025, as the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) undertakes essential maintenance at the 110 KV Pallavaram substation. The utility has emphasised that this temporary disruption is critical for improving the reliability and safety of the city’s electricity supply.
According to TANGEDCO officials, the power shutdown will occur from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting localities including Old Pallavaram, Zamin Pallavaram, Thrisulam, Rajaji Nagar, Malliga Nagar, Malaganthapuram, Bharathi Nagar, Pachayappan Colony, Cantonment Pallavaram, and multiple stretches along GST Road. The planned works include technical inspections, equipment servicing, and minor repairs designed to strengthen the distribution network and reduce unplanned outages in the future. Experts explain that periodic maintenance of high-capacity substations is integral to sustaining an eco-efficient urban electricity grid. While the short-term inconvenience may disrupt daily routines, such interventions are part of TANGEDCO’s broader strategy to ensure uninterrupted power supply, particularly during peak consumption periods. Officials have urged residents and businesses to make advance arrangements, including backup power solutions, to mitigate operational impact.
