Chennai Faces Rain Moderate Temperatures And Improving Air Quality Forecast
Chennai is set for a rainy Wednesday, with moderate temperatures and improving air quality providing some relief to residents, according to latest data from the Tamil Nadu Water Resources and AQI monitoring authorities. Temperatures are forecasted to range between 25.7°C and 31°C, accompanied by 13.85 mm of rainfall and overcast skies, creating humid conditions of around 73 per cent.
The city’s air quality index (AQI) has shown a positive shift, registering 64 on the moderate scale. PM2.5 levels currently measure 31 µg/m³, while PM10 stands at 55 µg/m³, indicating healthier conditions compared to last week’s peak AQI of 103. Carbon monoxide levels reached 318 ppb, and US AQI measurements showed 92, signalling moderate air quality. Officials noted that ongoing rainfall has helped disperse pollutants, contributing to the improvement.Residents are advised to carry umbrellas and plan travel with caution, particularly during late afternoon hours when rainfall intensity is expected to increase, potentially affecting commute times. Early mornings are likely to offer the best window for outdoor activities.
Steady winds at 21.2 km/h may slightly reduce discomfort caused by high humidity, and a cool evening breeze is forecast after 9 PM, offering some respite.
Looking ahead, the northeast monsoon is predicted to maintain steady rainfall throughout the week, keeping temperatures between 25°C and 31°C. October 18 is likely to experience the heaviest showers at 21.91 mm, while brief dry spells may occur on October 20 and 21. Experts indicate that persistent rain will continue to support improved air quality, particularly in high-traffic urban zones.
Authorities recommend that citizens, particularly those with respiratory conditions, continue taking precautions, including mask usage and avoiding prolonged outdoor exposure during rainfall. The combination of moderate temperatures, consistent showers, and improving AQI levels contributes to a relatively comfortable climate despite high humidity.Environmental experts emphasise that urban rain patterns not only aid air quality but also support sustainable water management across Chennai. Continuous monitoring of rainfall, air quality, and humidity levels remains critical for residents to manage health and daily activities efficiently. As Chennai continues to witness rainfall and moderate weather conditions, experts believe that the city is experiencing one of its more stable seasonal patterns, enhancing both public health and environmental resilience.
