Chennai Airports Terminal 4 to Host IndiGo ATR Flights from June 1

Starting June 1, 2025, all IndiGo ATR flights operating between Chennai and regional destinations such as Trichy, Tuticorin, Madurai, Mysore, Vijayawada, Salem, and Rajamundry will depart from Domestic Terminal 4 (T4) at Chennai International Airport.

This strategic shift aims to alleviate congestion in Terminal 1 (T1), which continues to handle all ATR arrivals. Passengers are advised to verify their departure terminal in advance to ensure a smooth travel experience . In parallel with the terminal reallocation, Chennai Airport is embracing digital transformation to streamline passenger processes. The introduction of the ‘Atithi@Indian Customs’ mobile application by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) allows international travelers to file baggage, item, and currency declarations digitally before arriving at Indian airports.

This initiative aims to expedite customs clearance, reduce processing times, and enhance transparency, contributing to a more efficient and hassle-free travel experience. Additionally, the DigiYatra initiative, launched at Chennai Airport in June 2024, utilizes facial recognition technology to facilitate seamless, contactless travel for domestic passengers. Registered travelers can use DigiYatra at designated e-gates in T1 and T4, expediting entry and security checks by linking their facial features with their boarding pass and identity documents. This system has already been implemented at several major airports across India, including Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai, and is expected to expand further to enhance passenger convenience and operational efficiency .

As Chennai Airport continues to modernize its infrastructure and adopt digital solutions, passengers can anticipate a more streamlined and efficient travel experience. The relocation of ATR flights to T4 is a temporary measure to manage current capacity constraints, with long-term plans for further expansion and modernization in the pipeline. Travelers are encouraged to stay informed about terminal assignments and take advantage of digital tools like the Atithi app and DigiYatra to enhance their journey.
