Chabbewal Launches ₹9 Crore Road Expansion, Improves Access to Key Villages

Chabbewal in Punjab is set to witness a major boost in road infrastructure, with four key rural roads sanctioned for widening to 18 feet at a cost exceeding ₹9 crore. Authorities confirmed that construction will commence soon, aiming to ease traffic congestion and enhance rural connectivity. The decision comes in response to longstanding public demand for better road conditions, especially in areas with growing vehicular movement between villages and regional hubs.

In a significant push to improve rural transportation, four major roads in Chabbewal will undergo widening to accommodate increasing traffic and improve travel efficiency across key routes. The sanctioned project includes a 7.90-km stretch from Bihala-Marula-Saidpur to Bham, a 1.38-km road from Mahilpur-Jejo Road to Chak Nariyal, a 2.56-km link from Mahilpur-Jejo Road to Lalwan, and a 1.60-km connection from Mahilpur-Phagwara Road to Kharodi. With a combined cost of over ₹9 crore, these expansions are expected to make commutes safer and more reliable for residents in the region. Senior officials stated that the widening will not only meet current traffic needs but also support future economic activity by providing better access for goods and services. The roads, currently narrow and worn, will be rebuilt with upgraded surfaces and drainage, reducing travel time and enhancing transport efficiency for daily commuters and logistics vehicles serving the agrarian population.

Experts involved in the project emphasised that the upgraded roads will significantly improve access to healthcare, education, and markets for village residents, especially in areas where poor road conditions have long disrupted daily life. The improved routes are expected to reduce vehicle wear and fuel consumption, while also supporting emergency services and school transportation. Authorities pointed out that the plan aligns with Punjab’s broader infrastructure development goals aimed at bridging rural-urban gaps. The project was approved following multiple feasibility assessments and public consultations that highlighted community dependence on these roads. Locals had long sought attention to these key links, citing challenges in commuting during monsoons and heavy traffic hours. With tenders approved and technical plans finalised, the work is scheduled to begin in phases, ensuring minimal disruption to existing traffic. The widened roads will follow sustainable construction practices to maintain environmental balance in the agriculturally rich region.

The Chabbewal road widening initiative marks a strategic investment in rural mobility, responding to both public demand and functional necessity. As construction begins, the project promises smoother, safer, and quicker connectivity between villages and arterial roads. These developments are expected to foster inclusive growth by linking remote areas more effectively to economic, educational, and healthcare hubs. Once completed, the upgraded roads will serve as vital infrastructure for daily travel, commercial transport, and emergency response, significantly improving quality of life for local communities. This initiative is part of a larger commitment to modernising Punjab’s rural road network for long-term resilience.
