The Central Government has finalised two significant industrial projects for Andhra Pradesh, aiming to develop the Orvakal Industrial Area in Kurnool district and the Kopparthy Industrial Area in YSR Kadapa district. With an investment of ₹5,367 crores, these initiatives are set to bolster the state’s industrial landscape, the Commerce and Industry Ministry announced on Thursday.
The projects, under the aegis of the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC), are designed to establish advanced infrastructure, strategically positioned near major highways, railway lines, and seaports. These areas are expected to attract a wide range of industries, thereby stimulating socio-economic progress and generating substantial employment opportunities. During a meeting chaired by Additional Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Rajeev Singh Thakur, on June 21, the projects underwent a comprehensive evaluation. The discussions focused on ensuring integrated planning and adherence to the principles of PM Gati Shakti, a holistic infrastructure development initiative aimed at enhancing connectivity and reducing logistical costs.
The Ministry highlighted the emphasis placed on the socio-economic benefits of the projects, including improved connectivity, reduced transit costs, and enhanced operational efficiency. The strategic location of these industrial areas is expected to significantly lower transportation expenses and streamline logistics for businesses, making these regions highly attractive for industrial investment. The Orvakal Industrial Area and the Kopparthy Industrial Area are poised to become hubs of industrial activity, fostering a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. These projects are expected to drive economic growth in the region, creating a ripple effect that will benefit various sectors, including manufacturing, logistics, and services.
Moreover, the development of these industrial areas aligns with the broader objectives of the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme, which aims to create world-class infrastructure and promote balanced regional development. By integrating industrial growth with infrastructural advancements, these projects are set to enhance India’s competitiveness on the global stage.
The Centre’s approval of ₹5,367 crores for the development of the Orvakal and Kopparthy Industrial Areas marks a significant milestone in Andhra Pradesh’s industrial journey.
