The Central government has sanctioned a substantial amount of Rs 6,585 crore for the development of seven national highway projects spanning 384 kilometres in Andhra Pradesh. This significant investment is poised to enhance the state’s infrastructure, facilitating better connectivity and promoting economic growth.
The projects include key routes: Kodumuru – Pericherla, Sangameshwaram – Nallakaluva, Nandyal – Kurnool, Vempally – Chagalamarri, Gorantla – Hindupur, Muddanuru – B Kothapalli, and Pendurthy – Bavardha. Roads and Buildings Minister emphasised the importance of these developments, noting that the Chief Minister played a pivotal role in securing the funds through coordination with officials from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Union Ministry of Road Transport.
These seven projects were originally part of the Bharat Mala project but faced delays for various reasons. In a recent press conference, the Minister highlighted his efforts to revive these projects, which included a visit to Delhi where he met Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. His advocacy bore fruit, resulting in the inclusion of these projects in the National Highways Ordinary Programme after their removal from the Bharat Mala initiative. This renewed focus on national highway infrastructure comes at a critical time, as improved roads are essential for stimulating economic activities, reducing travel times, and enhancing safety for commuters. The completion of these projects is expected to generate local employment opportunities during the construction phase and provide long-term benefits through improved transport networks.
From a sustainability perspective, enhancing national highways contributes to economic growth while promoting environmentally friendly practices. By reducing travel time and vehicle emissions through smoother, more efficient roads, the projects align with broader objectives of sustainable development. Furthermore, with the increased focus on eco-friendly construction methods, these highways could serve as a model for future infrastructure projects. As Andhra Pradesh embarks on this ambitious infrastructure development journey, the impact on regional connectivity and overall economic growth could be profound, paving the way for a more integrated and prosperous state.
