A six-member central team dispatched to evaluate the impact of recent floods and heavy rains in Telangana has been actively assessing the damage across affected districts. On Thursday, the team conducted field visits in Khammam and Suryapet districts, following a preliminary inspection of Khammam and Mahabubabad on Wednesday.
The delegation, which is divided into two sub-teams, has been working diligently to gauge the extent of the destruction. The first sub-team focused on Khammam rural mandal, including areas severely impacted by the Munneru flood on August 31 and September 1. Key locations such as Bokkalagadda, Jalagam Nagar, Dansalapuram, Prakash Nagar, Munneru Bridge, and Mothi Nagar were reviewed. These areas experienced significant flooding that affected numerous residential colonies. The second sub-team visited Danavaigudam, Tallapadu-Teldurpally, Tanagarapadu, and Prakashnagar-Nakraga. They also examined the damage within the Khammam municipal corporation limits, particularly noting the extensive destruction to residential properties. A photo exhibition was organised to visually document the scale of the devastation.
In the afternoon, the team shifted their focus to Kodad and nearby regions, where the Nagarjuna Sagar left bank canal breach resulted in substantial infrastructural damage. Roads and bridges in these areas were severely affected by the torrential rains. Officials from various departments, including revenue, roads and buildings, and irrigation, provided detailed accounts of the damage to the civic infrastructure. The central team is scheduled to meet with the Chief Minister on Friday to discuss their findings and formulate response strategies. The visit underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the immediate needs of the flood-affected communities and facilitating a comprehensive recovery plan.
