Central Railway has forged a strategic alliance with Shakti Plastic Industries to enhance waste management and promote recycling within the Mumbai division. This partnership, focused on reducing plastic waste, aligns with Central Railway’s commitment to supporting national and regional environmental policies.
The collaboration will initially be piloted at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) station and Wadibunder depot, where Shakti Plastic Industries will assume responsibility for collecting, segregating, and recycling plastic waste. In return, the company will supply recycled plastic products, such as benches and dustbins, to enhance the station’s infrastructure. This innovative partnership is anticipated to alleviate the burden on the Urban Local Bodies/Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (ULB/MCGM) while also propelling Central Railway towards the Government of India’s ambitious “Net Zero Station” target.
By adopting sustainable practices and reducing its environmental footprint, Central Railway is making significant strides towards a greener and more sustainable future. The partnership marks a pivotal moment in Central Railway’s journey towards environmental stewardship. It demonstrates a commitment to addressing the pressing issue of plastic waste pollution and contributing to a cleaner and healthier Mumbai. The initiative also sets a positive example for other public institutions and organizations to follow, inspiring them to adopt similar sustainable practices.
