Central Railway Megablocks to Affect Main and Harbour Lines

Commuters in Mumbai should anticipate significant travel disruptions today due to scheduled megablocks on the Main and Harbour lines of Central Railway. These disruptions are part of ongoing maintenance efforts aimed at improving the efficiency and safety of railway operations.

On the Main line, the block will impact both Up and Down fast lines between Matunga and Mulund stations from 11.05 am to 3.05 pm. During this period, services on the Up fast line departing from Thane between 10.50 am and 3.00 pm will be rerouted. These trains will first divert to the Up slow line at Mulund, making all scheduled stops between Mulund and Matunga. They will then switch back to the Up fast line at Matunga and are expected to arrive at their destinations approximately 15 minutes later than the usual schedule.

The Harbour line will experience a block on both Up and Down lines between Panvel and Vashi stations (excluding the Port line) from 11.05 am to 4.05 pm. During this time, Trans-Harbour line services heading towards Thane from Panvel, departing between 11.02 am and 3.53 pm, as well as those heading towards Panvel from Thane, departing between 10.01 am and 3.20 pm, will be cancelled.

To mitigate the impact, special local train services will operate on the CSMT Mumbai – Vashi section throughout the block period. Additionally, Trans-Harbour line services will remain functional between Thane and Vashi/Nerul stations during the block. In contrast, the Western Railway suburban section will not see any day blocks, providing some respite for commuters relying on WR local trains today. However, a significant jumbo block on the Up and Down slow lines between Borivali and Bhayander was executed from midnight to 4.35 am on Sunday.

During this block, Up slow line trains were rerouted to the fast lines between Virar/Vasai Road and Borivali/Goregaon, while Virar-bound Down slow line trains were shifted to the Down fast lines between Goregaon and Vasai Road/Virar stations. Overall, while today’s disruptions are necessary for essential maintenance work on tracks, signals, and overhead equipment, they are expected to cause considerable inconvenience to Mumbai’s extensive commuter base. Passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and remain updated on any further announcements from the railway authorities.
