Mumbai’s Central Railway (CR) has announced 12 additional suburban special trains to accommodate the expected passenger influx on December 5-6, 2024, marking Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Mahaparinirvan Divas. These trains will operate along the Parel-Kalyan and Kurla-Panvel routes, ensuring smooth overnight travel for those visiting Chaityabhoomi in Dadar and other commemorative sites.
The special trains, stopping at all stations, will run between late Thursday night and early Friday morning, catering to the massive crowds expected to pay homage to Dr Ambedkar. Key details of the schedule include the following: On the main line, special trains to Parel include a Kurla-Parel service departing at 12:45 am and arriving at 1:05 am, a Kalyan-Parel train departing at 1:00 am and arriving at 2:15 am, and a Thane-Parel train departing at 2:10 am and arriving at 2:55 am. In the down direction, a Parel-Thane train will leave at 1:15 am and arrive at 1:55 am, a Parel-Kalyan train will depart at 2:25 am and arrive at 3:40 am, and a Parel-Kurla train will leave at 3:05 am and arrive at 3:20 am.
For commuters on the harbour line, a Vashi-Kurla service will depart at 1:30 am and arrive at 2:10 am, while a Panvel-Kurla train will leave at 1:40 am and reach its destination at 2:45 am. Another Vashi-Kurla train will run from 3:10 am to 3:40 am. In the down direction, Kurla to Vashi trains are scheduled at 2:30 am (arriving at 3:00 am) and 4:00 am (arriving at 4:35 am), while a Kurla-Panvel train will operate from 3:00 am to 4:00 am. CR officials have encouraged commuters to utilise these services for safe and convenient travel during the occasion. Security and crowd management measures will be in place at major stations to ensure smooth operations.
