Madhya Pradesh is set to witness a significant transformation in its road infrastructure with the central government approving four major highway projects worth Rs 4,302.93 crore.

In the Vidisha and Sagar districts, Rs 731.36 crore has been earmarked for converting a 10.079 km section from Rahatgarh to Berkhedi (National Highway-146) into a four-lane road. This project aims to streamline traffic flow and reduce the environmental impact of congestion, contributing to the state’s sustainability targets. Sagar district will see the development of a 20.193 km greenfield four-lane western bypass, with an investment of Rs 688.31 crore. The new bypass will connect Lahdara village junction to Berkhedi Guru village junction, enhancing access between key national highways (NH-146 to NH-44). This project is expected to alleviate traffic pressure in urban areas and promote balanced regional development. In Gwalior city, a substantial Rs 1,347.6 crore has been allocated for the construction of a 28.516 km access-controlled four-lane western bypass. This project is designed to improve connectivity within the city while reducing the environmental footprint through sustainable construction practices. The bypass will not only ease congestion but also support the city’s growth as a regional economic hub.
