Zhengzhou, the capital of China’s Henan province, has unveiled 16 new international air cargo routes, marking a significant stride in enhancing global trade connectivity and bolstering cross-border e-commerce.
This expansion positions Zhengzhou as a pivotal logistics hub, facilitating efficient movement of goods between China and key markets across Europe, North America, and Central Asia. The newly established routes connect Zhengzhou to major cities including Frankfurt, Paris, Budapest, Istanbul, and Madrid. This development is part of Henan’s strategic initiative to strengthen its role in international logistics and support the rapid growth of e-commerce. By enhancing air freight capabilities, the province aims to provide faster and more reliable delivery services, thereby attracting global businesses and investors.
Experts highlight that the expansion of air cargo routes is crucial for sustaining the momentum of cross-border e-commerce, which relies heavily on robust and efficient logistics networks. A well-developed air freight infrastructure not only ensures timely delivery of goods but also enhances the resilience of supply chains against external disruptions. In addition to the new routes, Henan has been actively integrating advanced logistics models to streamline operations. The province recently launched its first ‘TIR + cross-border e-commerce’ shipment, combining the “9610” e-commerce model with the TIR international road transport system. This innovative approach simplifies customs procedures and accelerates cargo clearance, further solidifying Henan’s position as a logistics powerhouse.
The impact of these developments is evident in the province’s trade performance. In the first quarter of the year, Henan’s bonded logistics zone reported cross-border e-commerce imports and exports worth 8.12 billion yuan ($1.11 billion), marking a 92.2% increase year-on-year. This surge underscores the effectiveness of Henan’s strategic investments in logistics infrastructure and its commitment to fostering a conducive environment for international trade. Looking ahead, Henan is set to host the 2025 Zhengzhou Cross-border E-commerce Conference from May 29 to 31. The event aims to expand market access and enhance international cooperation in the e-commerce sector. By bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders, the conference seeks to explore new avenues for collaboration and drive sustainable growth in global trade.
Henan’s concerted efforts to enhance its logistics capabilities and integrate innovative transport models reflect a broader vision of establishing a zero net carbon, eco-friendly, and equitable trade ecosystem. By prioritizing sustainability and inclusivity, the province is not only boosting its economic prospects but also contributing to the global agenda of building resilient and responsible supply chains. As Zhengzhou continues to expand its air cargo network and embrace cutting-edge logistics solutions, it stands poised to play a central role in shaping the future of international trade and e-commerce. These developments underscore the city’s emergence as a key node in the global logistics landscape, offering immense opportunities for businesses and consumers alike.
