Canada Introduces Free Low-Carbon Training for Building Sector

In response to shifting regulations, increasing expectations, and the rising
market demand for low-carbon buildings, the Canada Green Building Council
(CAGBC) has collaborated with leading industry associations to introduce a
groundbreaking initiative: the Low Carbon Training Program.

This programme is designed to provide free low-carbon skills training for
professionals in the Canadian building sector. It is the first of its kind in Canada
and aims to equip individuals working in architecture, engineering,
construction, and commercial real estate, including building owners and
operators, with a common language and understanding of low-carbon strategies
and solutions.

The building sector’s needs are evolving rapidly, generating a growing demand
for skills in low-carbon construction and retrofits. This initiative addresses the
urgent need for such skills, helping the industry adapt to changing times. The
Low Carbon Training Program is designed to improve collaboration among
leading industry associations and increase reach into the industry to effectively
build knowledge and skills for low-carbon solutions.

Tailored to cater to the unique needs of professionals within the sector, the
programme offers a range of courses covering various aspects of low-carbon
building. Topics include the business case for low-carbon building and retrofits,
the consideration and measurement of carbon throughout a building’s lifecycle
in compliance with evolving codes and regulations. This process encompasses
the stages of planning, design, construction, and ongoing maintenance and
operation.
