BWSSB Pioneers Treated Water Supply for Construction Ventures

In a strategic manoeuvre aimed at addressing the water requirements of construction projects, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has unveiled plans to supply 10 MLD (million litres per day) of treated water.

This ground-breaking initiative is poised to revolutionise the construction sector by ensuring uninterrupted progress while fostering sustainable water utilisation practices.Chairing a crucial meeting at the BWSSB headquarters, V. Ram Prasath Manohar, Chairman of BWSSB, reaffirmed the board’s unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality treated water for construction purposes. He issued directives to the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI) to furnish a comprehensive report detailing the water demand for ongoing construction activities. Amar Mysore, President of CREDAI Bengaluru, expressed satisfaction with BWSSB’s proactive stance and lauded the board’s efforts in facilitating seamless construction work amid challenges posed by water scarcity. He commended the initiative to supply treated water at competitive rates, emphasising the importance of auxiliary support in terms of transportation and storage facilities at construction sites.

The move by BWSSB signifies a paradigm shift in water management strategies within the construction domain. By harnessing treated water for non-potable purposes, construction projects can significantly reduce their reliance on freshwater sources, thereby conserving precious resources and mitigating environmental impact. Moreover, this initiative aligns with broader sustainability objectives, fostering a culture of responsible resource utilisation within the construction sector. As urban development continues to burgeon in Bengaluru and beyond, innovative solutions such as BWSSB’s treated water supply scheme play a pivotal role in ensuring the resilience and sustainability of infrastructure development initiatives. Going forward, collaborative efforts between regulatory bodies, industry stakeholders, and governmental agencies will be imperative in scaling up such initiatives and integrating them seamlessly into the fabric of urban development agendas. BWSSB’s pioneering move sets a precedent for transformative water management practices and underscores the potential for public-private partnerships to drive sustainable development in burgeoning urban landscapes.
