Businessmen from Chakan, Talegaon, Ranjangaon and other areas are demanding that the planned international airport in Pune be in the Chakan area. If Chakan does not have an airport, industries in the industrial belt will relocate outside Maharashtra.
About 70 per cent of the industrialists in and around the city have agreed that Chakan should have an airport. Along with Pimpri-Chinchwad, Chakan, and Ranjangaon, the Talegaon belt is known as the ‘Automobile Hub’. There are about 40,000 to 50,000 small and large companies in this area. Many big companies have invested in this area as Chakan was to have an airport. However, the proposed airport at Chakan is shifted to Purandar, far from Pune.
