The Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPC), a Fortune Global 500 Company, has successfully electrified a 5,000 km stretch of highways in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. As part of this initiative, 30 kw fast-charging stations have been installed at 110 fuel stations, creating 19 EV fast charging corridors along 15 major highways in these three states. These corridors will connect significant religious and tourist destinations, promoting sustainable and convenient travel options for EV owners.
The launch of these EV fast charging corridors is part of BPCL’s commitment to support and accelerate the growth of electric vehicles (EVs) in India. The company has converted a total of 21 highways into electric corridors so far and aims to cover 200 highways across the country with electric vehicle fast chargers in future. By establishing these corridors, BPCL is taking a significant step towards building a robust charging infrastructure that will facilitate long-distance travel for EVs.
In Kerala, BPC has introduced three corridors with 19 fuel stations. These corridors will connect cities like Tirupathi in Andhra Pradesh, Bandipur National Park in Karnataka, and various famous religious sites such as Guruvayoor Temple and Kadampuzha Temple. In Karnataka, the company has established six corridors with 33 fuel stations, enabling travel to destinations like Ranganathaswamy Temple and Jambukeswar Temple. In Tamil Nadu, 10 corridors with 58 fuel stations have been set up, connecting places like Markaz Knowledge City, Kanyakumari for an early sunrise watch, and Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai.
BPC’s efforts to establish EV fast charging corridors on highways demonstrate its commitment to sustainability and the growth of electric mobility in India. By providing a reliable and extensive charging infrastructure, BPC aims to encourage more people to switch over to electric vehicles, reducing carbon emissions and promoting cleaner transportation options for a greener future.
