BMC Completes 1,385 Roads Ahead of Monsoon

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced the completion of concretisation work on 1,385 roads across the city.

This initiative, part of the city’s monsoon preparedness plan, aims to ensure smoother vehicular movement and reduce waterlogging incidents during the rainy season. The concrete curing process is scheduled to conclude by June 2, with all barricades set to be removed by June 5, facilitating full access to these roads for commuters. This development is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance road safety during the monsoon period.

According to a senior official from the BMC, while most roads have been completed end-to-end, 30 roads have been partially completed using mastic asphalt. The remaining road works will be undertaken post-monsoon to ensure quality and longevity. The official also emphasized the importance of ensuring that junctions remain levelled with mastic asphalt to maintain road uniformity. Additionally, a list of authorized speed bumps is being compiled to ensure they are restored appropriately.

Inspections conducted in the eastern suburbs, including areas like Chembur, Ghatkopar West, Bhandup West, Vikhroli West, and Mulund West, have confirmed the progress of the road works. These inspections are part of the BMC’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure to its citizens. The BMC’s initiative aligns with the broader goal of creating sustainable and eco-friendly urban environments. By improving road infrastructure, the city aims to reduce vehicular emissions, enhance commuter safety, and promote equitable access to transportation.

As Mumbai braces for the monsoon, the timely completion of these roadworks underscores the city’s proactive approach to infrastructure development and disaster preparedness. Residents can look forward to improved road conditions, reduced travel times, and a safer commuting experience in the months ahead.
