BMC Clears 150 Encroachments on JR Boricha Road to Ease Congestion and Pedestrian Movement

In a bid to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) carried out a significant demolition drive on JR Boricha Road near Lower Parel, central Mumbai, on Wednesday. The demolition effort was aimed at clearing encroachments along a critical stretch of road, which has long been plagued by illegal constructions and obstruction.

The operation, led by Assistant Commissioner Mrudula Ande of the BMC G South Ward, focused on the removal of around 150 shanties and encroachments, which were occupying the footpath and part of the road. These encroachments had been causing traffic congestion and making it difficult for pedestrians, especially students and locals, to navigate the area safely. The demolition was conducted in close collaboration with the N M Joshi Police Station, involving a total of 100 police personnel, including both male and female officers, along with BMC engineers and labourers. The operation covered a 300-meter stretch on both sides of the road, specifically targeting the blocked footpaths that are vital for pedestrian movement.

As a result of this drive, the JR Boricha Road is now more accessible, and the restored footpath offers safer passage for pedestrians, including those heading to the Sitaram Mill Municipal School located nearby. The road, being a key route in Lower Parel, is expected to experience less congestion, especially during peak hours, benefiting both pedestrians and vehicle commuters. The demolition is part of the BMC’s ongoing efforts to improve urban infrastructure and ensure safer, smoother travel for the public. With these encroachments removed, the road has become much more navigable and safer for everyone traveling through the area. The BMC’s swift action reflects its commitment to enhancing the city’s infrastructure and quality of life for Mumbai’s residents.
