BMC Announces School, College Holiday In Mumbai, Thane, Palghar

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), along with civic authorities in surrounding districts, has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges on Monday following continuous heavy rainfall across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The decision was taken late Sunday night after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued warnings of intense showers accompanied by strong winds. Civic officials said the precautionary step was necessary to ensure the safety of students, considering reports of waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and reduced train services in several parts of the city and suburbs.

The holiday notification covers educational institutions across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar, where rainfall activity has been particularly severe since the weekend. Emergency response teams have been deployed to clear major road stretches, while pumping stations are working at full capacity to manage excess water.

Officials also confirmed that the heavy rains have led to multiple incidents across Maharashtra, causing damage to property and disrupting normal life. State disaster management units have been placed on high alert, and residents have been advised to step out only if necessary.

The BMC and neighbouring civic bodies said restoration of routine schedules in schools and colleges will be assessed depending on the rainfall situation and safety conditions over the next 24 hours.
