BMC Announces 22-Hour Water Cut for Pipeline Repairs in South Mumbai

Starting November 28, Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), will undertake essential repairs on the Tansa main pipeline in Lower Parel. The repair work, scheduled to last 22 hours, will result in a complete water supply shutdown in several areas, while others will experience reduced supply. The work is expected to conclude by 8 pm on November 29.

Affected Areas
Residents of Lower Parel, Prabhadevi, Worli, Dadar, and Currey Road are among those who will face significant water supply disruptions. Key affected locations include:

No Water Supply:
NM Joshi Marg, Currey Road, BDD Chawl (Worli), Prabhadevi, Sakharam Bala Pawar Marg, Adarsh Nagar, and Sayani Marg, among others.

Reduced Supply:
Senapati Bapat Marg, Veer Savarkar Marg, L.J. Marg, and Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg.

The hydraulic engineering department of the BMC will repair the 1,450 mm pipeline at Gawde Chowk on Senapati Bapat Marg. Given the critical location of the pipeline valves beneath the main road, traffic along Senapati Bapat Marg will also be temporarily halted. The BMC has urged residents to store water in advance and use it judiciously during this period. In addition to water supply issues, traffic on Senapati Bapat Marg will be affected as the pipeline valves are located beneath the road. Civic authorities have assured that efforts will be made to minimize disruptions while ensuring safety and efficiency during the repairs.

The Tansa pipeline is a vital part of Mumbai’s water infrastructure, supplying potable water to numerous localities. The repair work is essential to prevent leakage and ensure uninterrupted water supply in the future. “We appeal to citizens to bear with us during this critical repair period and conserve water as much as possible,” said a senior BMC official. Residents and businesses in the affected areas have been advised to plan for alternative arrangements until the water supply resumes.
