Biometric Survey Kicks Off for SRA Scheme in Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai is taking steps towards implementation of the Slum
Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme, with the initiation of a biometric
survey in the region’s slums. The SRA scheme aims to rehabilitate slum
dwellers by providing them with proper housing, benefiting an estimated 50,000
residents.

The survey commenced in the Chinchpada area of Airoli. A special programme
was organised to familiarise slum dwellers with the process and reassure them
of the benefits of the scheme. The survey will account for hutments of slum
dwellers existing from pre-January 2000, which have been granted protection
under the law and will receive free homes. It will also include hutments built up
to January 1, 2011, which will be eligible for homes with payment.

The survey involves numbering houses, measuring their areas, collecting
fingerprints and photographs of residents using biometric systems, capturing
images of entire families in front of their homes, and conducting videography of
the location. Additionally, proof of residency will be collected to facilitate the
slum dwellers’ eligibility for the scheme.

As the biometric survey progresses, Navi Mumbai remains committed to
addressing the housing needs of its slum dwellers. The SRA scheme aims to
transform the lives of thousands of residents by providing them with proper
housing and essential amenities.
