BillionE secures 250 contracts accelerating India’s electric freight transition

India’s freight sector is poised for a significant transformation as Billion Electric Mobility (BillionE), a homegrown startup, secures over 250 long-term electric truck contracts with enterprise clients nationwide. This landmark development signals a pivotal shift towards sustainable logistics, moving beyond pilot programmes to a full-scale rollout of electric freight. It marks a crucial step in India’s journey towards achieving zero net carbon emissions and fostering eco-friendly urban environments.

For years, the widespread adoption of electric trucks on Indian highways seemed a distant prospect, largely confined to conceptual presentations. However, BillionE’s breakthrough signifies a tangible change, demonstrating that the nation is ready to electrify its freight movement. The contracts span diverse industries, from pharmaceuticals and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) to cement, copper, e-commerce, and automotive, showcasing the broad applicability and growing confidence in electric heavy-duty transport across various economic sectors.

Sanjeev Kulkarni, CEO of Billion Electric Mobility, underscored the profound impact of this achievement, stating it marks “a tipping point for electric freight in India.” With operations now live across key cities in South, West, and North India, including Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Kochi, BillionE is actively delivering results. The deployed medium and heavy-duty electric trucks, ranging from 12 to 55 tonnes (GVW), are strategically positioned across some of India’s most emission-intensive logistics corridors, directly contributing to cleaner air in and around urban centres.

What differentiates BillionE is its comprehensive, end-to-end electric mobility solution. The company offers more than just electric trucks; it provides a full-service fleet package encompassing charging infrastructure, meticulous route engineering, tech-driven fleet management, and robust maintenance support. This “Electrification-as-a-Service” model effectively removes traditional barriers for businesses, making the transition from conventional diesel fleets to clean transport seamless and economically viable, thereby accelerating the adoption of sustainable practices.

This surge in electric freight adoption aligns perfectly with governmental policy, notably the PM E-DRIVE scheme, which has allocated ₹500 crore in incentives for electric trucks. This national-level push, offering subsidies of up to ₹9.6 lakh per vehicle, is a game-changer for the medium and heavy-duty freight segment, which has historically been underserved in India’s electric vehicle policy landscape. Such policy support, coupled with industry innovation, is vital for creating sustainable, gender-neutral, and equitable cities by reducing pollution, improving public health, and fostering new green job opportunities within the logistics sector.
