Bihar took a significant stride toward railway modernization as Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for multiple development projects at Karpoorigram station in the Samastipur division. The inauguration ceremony marked a ₹17.3 crore boost to local railway infrastructure, aimed at enhancing connectivity, safety, and commuter convenience.
The minister began his visit with an inspection at Digha Bridge Halt, reviewing the state of passenger amenities, safety measures, cleanliness, and security. He emphasized that improving the travel experience is a core mission of the Indian Railways. At Karpoorigram, Vaishnaw laid the foundation stone for station redevelopment works worth ₹3.30 crore. These include a modernized station building, better waiting areas, upgraded sanitation, digital information systems, accessible drinking water units, and facilities for differently-abled passengers.
A major highlight of the event was the inauguration of a ₹14 crore underground railway subway at Level Crossing Gate No. 59 ‘C’ between Karpoorigram and Khudiram Bose Pusa stations. The subway is designed to reduce traffic congestion, enhance rail safety, and streamline local train operations. Speaking at the event, the minister cited the laying of 35,000 km of new railway lines in the past 11 years, showcasing the Centre’s commitment to infrastructure growth. He underlined Bihar’s importance as a vital partner in the government’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).
These developments reflect the Indian Railways’ ongoing push toward inclusive development, modernization, and safe travel experiences for all.
