Bihar to Build 223 Road Over Bridges for Better Connectivity

The Ministry of Railways has approved the construction of 223 Road Over Bridges (ROBs) across the state. This initiative aims to alleviate traffic bottlenecks at railway crossings and improve connectivity between districts and the state capital, Patna. The decision follows a high-level meeting between Bihar’s Road Construction Department and senior officials from the Indian Railways.

During the meeting, the Railway Board confirmed its approval of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for 12 initial ROBs across various districts. These include key locations such as Darbhanga, Motihari, and Majhaulia, which have been identified as critical points for infrastructure development. In addition to the initial 12, the DPRs for 48 more ROBs are ready and are expected to receive approval by next month. The Road Construction Department is actively preparing DPRs for another 112 ROBs, indicating a comprehensive approach to addressing the state’s transportation challenges.

From March to May, the department led a focused campaign during which the Railways granted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for all 223 railway crossings under the Road Construction Department. Furthermore, NOCs have also been issued for 236 out of 259 level crossings under other departments like the Rural Works Department. Minister Nitin Naveen expressed gratitude to the Central Government and the Ministry of Railways, hailing the move as a landmark achievement in Bihar’s infrastructure development. He emphasized that the construction of these 223 ROBs would bring long-awaited relief to the public from traffic congestion at railway gates and ensure smoother and safer road travel across Bihar.

The ambitious goal is to enable travel from any part of the state to Patna within three and a half hours, significantly reducing travel time and enhancing economic activities. The ROBs are expected to facilitate the seamless movement of goods and people, thereby boosting trade and commerce in the region. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of improving transportation infrastructure to support economic growth and development. By addressing critical infrastructure gaps, Bihar aims to create a more connected and efficient transportation network that meets the needs of its growing population.

The successful implementation of this project will not only improve connectivity but also contribute to the overall development of Bihar, making it a more attractive destination for investment and tourism. The government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure reflects its dedication to fostering sustainable and inclusive growth across the state. As the project progresses, it will be essential to monitor its impact on traffic patterns, economic activities, and the overall quality of life for residents. Continuous evaluation and feedback will ensure that the objectives of the 223 ROBs initiative are met and that Bihar’s transportation infrastructure continues to evolve in line with the needs of its people.
