Bihar secures six new Amrit Bharat trains UP gets five

Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have emerged as the primary beneficiaries of the Amrit Bharat train allocation, with six and five services respectively, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inauguration of four new trains from Bihar. This expansion signifies a pivotal step in enhancing regional connectivity and providing modern, non-AC rail travel resembling Vande Bharat interiors, crucial for fostering equitable and sustainable mobility across India’s heartland.

The operational count of Amrit Bharat Trains has now reached seven, marking a significant advancement in Indian Railways’ mission to upgrade passenger experience for a broader demographic. Prior to Friday’s launch, only three such services were operational, connecting key routes like Darbhanga–Delhi, Malda–Bengaluru, and Mumbai–Saharsa. The newly introduced services include vital links between Patna and Delhi, Bapudham Motihari and Delhi, Darbhanga and Lucknow, and Malda Town and Lucknow via Bhagalpur, directly addressing the travel needs of millions of citizens in these densely populated states.

The Amrit Bharat trains, representing a 2.0 version, are designed to offer enhanced facilities without the air-conditioning, making them a more accessible and affordable option for a wider segment of the population. This strategic focus on non-AC coaches, while incorporating modern amenities and a contemporary interior design akin to the popular Vande Bharat trains, reflects a nuanced approach to public transport development. It aims to cater to the diverse economic strata of Indian society, ensuring that the benefits of railway modernisation are inclusive and reach all citizens, thereby promoting gender-neutral access to efficient transport.

The allocation of a higher number of these trains to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh is particularly significant. These states are characterised by large populations and substantial migrant worker communities, for whom affordable and reliable long-distance train travel is a lifeline. By improving connectivity in these regions, the Amrit Bharat project can facilitate easier access to employment opportunities, educational centres, and healthcare facilities, contributing directly to socio-economic upliftment and balanced regional development. This also helps in reducing the environmental impact of individual travel, promoting a more eco-friendly mode of transport.

Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s recent release of the 3D model of Bettiah station, being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Yojana, further underscores the comprehensive vision for railway infrastructure. This integrated approach, combining modern train services with upgraded station facilities, aims to create a seamless and comfortable travel experience. The Amrit Bharat initiative, therefore, is not merely about introducing new trains; it is about building a more robust, accessible, and sustainable railway network that serves as a backbone for India’s ongoing urban and rural transformation.
