Bihar Infrastructure Boosted with 48520 Crore Investment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for development projects worth over ₹48,520 crore in Karakat, Rohtas district, on May 30, 2025.

These initiatives aim to enhance regional connectivity, promote sustainable development, and ensure energy security for the state. Among the key projects unveiled was the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project Stage-II, comprising three units of 800 MW each, at an estimated cost of ₹29,930 crore. This expansion is poised to make the Nabinagar facility the third-largest thermal power project in India, with a total capacity of 4,380 MW. The project is a joint venture between NTPC Limited and the Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited, with 78% of the generated electricity allocated to Bihar, ensuring a steady power supply for the state and eastern India.

In the transportation sector, PM Modi inaugurated the four-laning of the Patna–Gaya–Dobhi section of NH–22, valued at approximately ₹5,520 crore. This project is expected to significantly reduce travel time and enhance connectivity between Patna and Gaya. Additionally, the foundation stone was laid for the four-laning of the Patna–Arrah–Sasaram section of NH–119A and the six-laning of the Varanasi–Ranchi–Kolkata highway (NH–319B), along with the construction of a new bridge over the Ganga river between Buxar and Bharauli. These initiatives are part of the government’s broader efforts to improve road infrastructure and facilitate seamless movement of goods and people across the region. In the railway sector, PM Modi dedicated to the nation the third rail line between Son Nagar and Mohammad Ganj, valued at over ₹1,330 crore. This new line is expected to enhance coal transportation to the Nabinagar power plant, thereby supporting the state’s energy requirements. Furthermore, the foundation stone was laid for the Hardinge Park Terminal in Patna, a ₹95 crore project aimed at easing congestion at Patna Junction. The terminal will feature five platforms for MEMU trains and is designed with modern, airport-like facilities, including an underground passage connecting it to Patna Junction’s multimodal hub and metro rail services.

These infrastructure projects are expected to have a transformative impact on Bihar’s economy, creating employment opportunities, improving quality of life, and promoting sustainable development. The government’s focus on enhancing connectivity and energy security aligns with its vision of building a robust and resilient infrastructure network that supports inclusive growth and development. The inauguration of these projects comes ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections, signaling the government’s commitment to addressing the infrastructural needs of Bihar and ensuring equitable development across the state. As these projects progress, they are anticipated to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Bihar, making it a model for sustainable and inclusive urban development in India.
