Bihar Chief Minister inaugurated the Bhupatipur-Punpun elevated road on Monday. This pivotal infrastructure project, part of the Mithapur-Mahuli-Punpun corridor, is set to revolutionize travel dynamics in the region. The newly inaugurated stretch comprises a 5 km elevated four-lane road, a 10 km at-grade four-lane road, and a 1 km ramp, all constructed by Afcons Infrastructure Ltd.
Designed to accommodate speeds of up to 100 km/h, the road promises a safer and more efficient commuting experience. Remarkably, Phase II of the project was completed in just 19 months, surpassing the original 24-month timeline, underscoring the project’s execution efficiency. This development is poised to significantly reduce travel time between Bhupatipur/Sipara, Mahuli, and Punpun, from nearly an hour to approximately 10 minutes. The enhanced connectivity is expected to benefit lakhs of commuters and residents, facilitating smoother transportation of goods and services and promoting regional economic growth.
The project faced several challenges during its execution, including the transportation and erection of 1,764 precast segments amidst heavy live traffic conditions. Innovative engineering solutions, such as the use of splice girders and monopole jack stressing methodology, were employed to address these challenges effectively. Additionally, the widening of the existing carriageway from 7 meters to 17 meters and the rehabilitation of affected residents were undertaken to ensure the project’s success. Afcons Infrastructure Ltd, the flagship infrastructure engineering and construction company of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, has a legacy of over six decades in executing technologically complex EPC projects both within India and internationally. The company has been recognized as one of India’s leading international infrastructure firms, ranking 12th in the bridges segment based on international revenue for the financial year 2023, according to the Engineering News-Record (ENR) rankings.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers and other dignitaries, highlighting the project’s significance in Bihar’s infrastructural development. The successful completion of the Bhupatipur-Punpun elevated road not only enhances the state’s transportation network but also sets a benchmark for future infrastructure projects in the region. As Bihar continues to invest in infrastructure development, projects like the Bhupatipur-Punpun elevated road are instrumental in shaping a more connected and economically vibrant state. The collaboration between the state government and Afcons Infrastructure Ltd exemplifies the potential of public-private partnerships in achieving ambitious infrastructural goals.
