A Bhopal power outage is scheduled across multiple neighbourhoods on Tuesday as electricity utilities temporarily suspend supply to support infrastructure maintenance, metro construction and road development works. The planned disruption will affect several residential and institutional pockets of the city for limited hours through the day, reflecting the growing pressure on urban utilities to coordinate power infrastructure upgrades with expanding transport and civic projects.
Power distribution officials indicated that electricity supply will remain interrupted in different phases between morning and late afternoon in areas spread across central and northern Bhopal. The outages are linked to a combination of line shifting, equipment dismantling, conductor upgrades and routine maintenance along corridors undergoing infrastructure transformation. One cluster of interruptions between late morning and afternoon will impact neighbourhoods around Vittal Market, E-5 Shopping Centre and nearby institutional zones, where distribution lines are being shifted to accommodate structural adjustments near the railway overbridge corridor. Utility engineers say such line realignments are necessary when major road or transport structures alter the existing power network footprint. Shorter shutdown windows are also scheduled in administrative and institutional districts including the Jail Hill and Central School precinct. Officials overseeing the operation noted that dismantling ageing electrical hardware and relocating equipment requires controlled outages to ensure worker safety and prevent network instability.
Elsewhere, the Bhopal power outage overlaps with ongoing construction along the city’s metro transit alignment. Residential pockets such as Nizamuddin Colony, Sukh Sagar Colony and neighbouring estates will experience power suspension during daytime hours while contractors undertake electrical adjustments linked to the transit corridor. Urban planners say integrating metro infrastructure with existing power lines is one of the most complex aspects of building mass transit systems in older Indian cities. Similar temporary disruptions are planned in areas undergoing road improvement and land development works near Gandhinagar and adjoining settlements. Officials associated with the road expansion programme indicated that relocating overhead electrical lines is essential before heavy construction equipment can operate safely along widening corridors. In addition, maintenance teams will carry out conductor replacement and pole adjustments in residential clusters including Danish Kunj and nearby housing developments. Such upgrades are part of efforts to strengthen distribution networks against weather-related disruptions and rising electricity demand. Energy sector analysts note that planned outages remain an unavoidable element of modernising city infrastructure, particularly as urban transport, road widening and real estate expansion intersect with legacy power networks. However, they also emphasise the need for better coordination between utilities, urban development agencies and residents to minimise inconvenience.
