Neighbourhoods around a major healthcare centre and adjoining residential developments in the Kolar corridor also experienced brief electricity shutdowns during the morning hours. These areas have witnessed rapid housing growth over the past decade, putting additional pressure on local distribution networks that were originally designed for lower population density. Longer outages were scheduled across multiple residential colonies, local markets and informal settlements stretching from Malikhedi to Vijay Nagar and nearby neighbourhoods. In several of these locations, electricity supply remained unavailable for up to six hours as engineers conducted feeder-level maintenance. Power supply was also paused in parts of a key suburban zone covering several municipal wards and an adjoining village settlement.
Shorter interruptions were reported across housing clusters near Bhim Nagar and Om Nagar, as well as residential areas located close to a highway junction. Later in the day, supply disruptions extended to newly developed housing sectors and residential colonies along the southern urban expansion corridor, where outages were limited to roughly half an hour. Urban planners say such scheduled outages underline the operational challenge of maintaining electricity reliability in fast-growing cities. Bhopal’s population growth, new housing projects and expanding commercial activity have steadily increased demand on the distribution system, requiring periodic maintenance shutdowns to prevent larger failures.
