Bhopal Achieves Second Cleanest City Ranking in Swachh Survekshan

Bhopal has proudly secured the second rank in the Swachh Survekshan, marking a significant achievement for the city in the category of urban centers with populations exceeding ten lakh. This prestigious recognition was presented today by President Droupadi Murmu at a grand ceremony in New Delhi. This improved ranking reflects years of consistent effort and dedicated initiatives towards cleanliness. Celebrations have erupted across Bhopal, recognizing the collective endeavors that led to this remarkable national standing.

The citys Mayor and Corporation Commissioner received the esteemed award. This accomplishment marks a substantial jump for Bhopal, which was ranked fifth last year. In celebration, the Municipal Corporations Chairman personally participated in festivities, feeding sweets to sanitation workers and joining in celebratory music and dance, acknowledging their pivotal role. Over the years Bhopal has shown steady improvement, having secured second place in 2017 and 2018, before a dip and a gradual climb back through the rankings. The improved standing is largely credited to enhanced waste processing systems and efficient door to door garbage collection efforts.

Bhopals success stems from various initiatives including the establishment of fifteen garbage transfer stations and operational facilities for dry wet and construction and demolition waste. The city also utilizes an ICT based waste management monitoring system and has a significant portion of its garbage collection vehicles running on cleaner fuels. Innovative programs such as separate plants for coconut and thermocol waste the production of bio enzymes from flower waste and three Garbage Cafes promoting public awareness have contributed greatly. As a token of appreciation sanitation workers will receive a seven thousand rupees incentive each, aligning with the citys impressive seven star rating in the Garbage Free City category.

This significant achievement is a testament to the collective efforts of the Municipal Corporation, dedicated sanitation workers, and active citizen participation. Bhopal aims to continue this spirit of cleanliness, aspiring to secure the top position in future national rankings. This success showcases effective urban waste management strategies.
