Bhadrak To Get Fourth Railway Line Sanctioned For Howrah Chennai Corridor

The Ministry of Railways has sanctioned the construction of a fourth railway line between Ranital Link Cabin and Bhadrak station. This 5.06-kilometre expansion, estimated at ₹149.32 crore, is set to significantly alleviate congestion and enhance both freight and passenger train operations along the critical Howrah-Chennai High-Density Network. This strategic infrastructure upgrade underscores a commitment to modernising the state’s rail network, fostering greater efficiency and economic dynamism.

The Ranital–Bhadrak stretch is a vital artery within India’s busiest railway corridors, experiencing substantial traffic from both long-distance passenger services and heavy freight movements. The introduction of this additional line is specifically designed to segregate freight and coaching traffic, a crucial step towards streamlining operations. This separation is particularly beneficial for goods trains destined for the crucial Dhamra and Paradeep ports, promising to reduce bottlenecks and ensure a more predictable flow of essential commodities, thereby supporting industrial growth.

Currently, this heavily utilised segment frequently experiences delays for passenger and Mail/Express trains due to capacity constraints. The forthcoming fourth line is anticipated to dramatically improve punctuality, facilitating smoother and more reliable movement for coaching trains traversing between Kharagpur and Bhubaneswar. This enhancement in operational efficiency is not merely a logistical improvement; it translates directly into a more dependable travel experience for millions of citizens, fostering greater accessibility and reducing travel-related stress.

Officials from the East Coast Railway have highlighted that this infrastructure expansion is an integral component of a broader vision to transform Odisha’s railway network into a world-class system. This modernisation effort is designed to meet the escalating demands from both a growing passenger base and expanding industrial sectors. By boosting freight handling capacity, the project further solidifies Odisha’s strategic position as a pivotal logistics hub in eastern India, attracting investment and facilitating trade with greater ease and speed.

Ultimately, the completion of this vital railway line will significantly enhance the region’s capacity to manage increasing traffic volumes, paving the way for faster and more reliable train services across the region. This investment in robust, high-capacity rail infrastructure aligns seamlessly with the broader goals of creating sustainable and eco-friendly cities. By promoting efficient rail transport, the project contributes to reducing carbon emissions from road freight, fostering a more equitable and environmentally responsible urban future for Odisha and beyond.
