Mumbai’s public transport network is set to improve as the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking introduces air-conditioned (AC) bus services on key routes starting today. This move aims to provide a more comfortable commuting experience for passengers while strengthening the city’s transport fleet. The new AC buses will operate at standard fares, making them an affordable alternative to other modes of travel.The expansion is part of BEST’s ongoing initiative to modernise its services, ensuring enhanced comfort and convenience for daily commuters. With the gradual addition of wet lease buses, the undertaking is working towards filling service gaps across multiple routes. The newly introduced AC services will be available on designated routes, including A-7, A-511, and RC-53, connecting significant locations across the city and its suburbs.
According to officials, the A-7 route will run between Vijay Vallabh Chowk (Paydhuni) and Vikhroli depot, with eight AC buses operating at intervals ranging from 25 to 50 minutes. The first bus from Vijay Vallabh Chowk will commence at 7:20 AM, while the last departure will be at 11:30 PM. Meanwhile, services from Vikhroli depot will begin at 6:00 AM, with the final bus leaving at 10:00 PM.Similarly, the A-511 route will connect Ghatkopar Bus Station to Neral Bus Station, also operating eight buses at intervals of 25 to 30 minutes. The first bus from Ghatkopar will start as early as 4:05 AM, with the last service running until 12:30 AM. From Neral, the first bus will begin at 4:45 AM, and the last will operate at 4:25 AM the next day.Additionally, the RC-53 corridor route aims to enhance connectivity between Ghatkopar and Kalamboli Bus Stations, offering frequent services with 14 buses running at intervals of 15 to 20 minutes. The first bus from Ghatkopar will depart at 6:00 AM, and the last will leave at 8:30 PM. From Kalamboli, services will begin at 7:10 AM and continue until 10:10 PM.The decision to introduce these AC buses comes as part of Mumbai’s broader push towards improving public transport facilities while reducing congestion and pollution levels in the city. BEST has been actively working to replace outdated vehicles with modern, eco-friendly buses to encourage more residents to opt for public transport over private vehicles.
