BEST Buses Rerouted Amid Pipeline Repairs in Mumbai

Mumbai commuters are facing temporary disruptions as multiple BEST bus routes have been rerouted due to urgent sewage pipeline repairs along August Kranti Maidan Road. The repair work, necessitated by the collapse of a gutter between Nana Chowk and Godrej Chowk, has led to traffic restrictions, prompting adjustments to public transport routes.

The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport (BEST) service confirmed these changes via social media, notifying passengers that routes A104, A121, A122, and A135 have been diverted. Instead of their usual course, these buses will now operate via Pandita Ramabai Marg and Patkar Marg, bypassing the affected stretch. Additionally, the revised route will take buses through Ramabai Marg – Dalvi Hospital – right turn onto Babulnath Marg – Kemps Corner to ensure smooth traffic movement.

Temporary Closures and Commuter Impact

With the road closure in place, bus stops at Nana Chowk and August Kranti Maidan have been temporarily shut down. The diversion, which took effect at 11:40 AM on January 30, will continue until the completion of the pipeline work, though authorities have not specified a definitive timeline for its completion. Adding to the congestion, the Mumbai Traffic Police (MTP) issued an advisory warning of slow-moving traffic along Forgett Street in Tardeo due to a separate water pipeline leakage. “Traffic movement is slow at Forgett Street, Tardeo, due to a water pipeline leakage,” MTP stated in an official update, urging commuters to plan accordingly.

Commuter Advisory and Alternative Routes

Passengers using the affected BEST routes are advised to factor in extra travel time and utilise alternative bus stops along the modified routes. Authorities have also urged commuters to stay updated through official BEST and MTP social media channels for real-time traffic and transport updates. As Mumbai grapples with urban infrastructure challenges, such disruptions highlight the pressing need for proactive maintenance and efficient traffic management to minimise commuter inconvenience.
