Berger Paints India Hindupur Facility Boosts Supply Chain
Berger Paints India has officially begun commercial production at its new fully automated resin manufacturing facility in Hindupur, Andhra Pradesh, marking a strategic shift toward deeper value-chain integration and cost optimisation for one of the country’s leading coatings producers. The expansion, which introduces an annual capacity of 12,000 metric tonnes of resins, a core raw material for paints and coatings, is expected to improve operational efficiency and supply reliability for India’s urbanisation-linked construction demand.
The Hindupur plant’s commissioning is part of a broader brownfield expansion strategy that the company has pursued across its existing footprint, reinforcing its ability to serve a rapidly evolving coatings market while managing input volatility. In-house resin production gives the company greater control over a key feedstock, which can reduce dependence on external suppliers and enhance consistency in quality — critical factors for builders, specifiers and developers focused on durable, high-performance finishes. This move comes as India’s paint and coatings industry contends with intensifying competition and shifting demand patterns. Domestic production capacity is being scaled up not just for decorative paints, but also for industrial and construction chemicals, driven by expanding housing markets, infrastructure spending and renovation cycles in urban and peri-urban areas. By embedding resin production within its supply chain, Berger Paints is aligning operational capacity with these structurally growing segments, signalling confidence in mid- to long-term urban and construction activity.
Industry analysts note that localising resin manufacture can help stabilise input costs and reduce lead times, especially for markets in southern and central India. For developers and contractors, this means more dependable material supply and potentially improved pricing predictability, critical for project planning and cost control. Urban planners also point out that resilient industrial supply chains form the backbone of sustainable infrastructure delivery, especially in fast-growing regions where demand for quality paints and coatings parallels broader urban expansion. However, the investment also comes with execution risks. Integrating new automated operations requires careful calibration of workforce skills and logistics linkages to existing lines. Achieving full utilisation of the Hindupur facility will depend on synchronising supply chains and distribution networks across diverse regional markets — from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka to Maharashtra and beyond.
Berger Paints’ expansion at Hindupur sits alongside a multi-year industrial growth plan that includes additional plants and capacity enhancements. As the company deepens its production footprint, it also faces pressure to embed sustainability across manufacturing practices — from energy efficiency to waste and emission controls. For sustainable city agendas and eco-responsible built environments, aligning capacity growth with low-carbon manufacturing methods will be essential.
Looking forward, the company’s ability to integrate automated, resilient production platforms with agile supply chain solutions will shape how decorative and industrial coatings support India’s evolving urban infrastructure needs.
