Bengaluru residents are bracing for scheduled electricity interruptions over the weekend as the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) confirmed planned power outages on August 29, 30, and 31, 2025. The outages are part of essential maintenance, infrastructure upgrades, and High Temperature Low Sag (HTLS) conductor stringing projects designed to improve the reliability and efficiency of the city’s power supply.
Officials from BESCOM emphasised that the power cuts, which will last from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., are carefully timed to minimise disruption while allowing engineers to complete maintenance work safely. On August 29, power interruptions affected areas serviced by the 66/11 kV Telecom Layout MUSS. Similar schedules are planned for the following two days, particularly along the Sarjapura-Attibele line between tower numbers 58 and 59. Affected localities include key residential and commercial hubs such as Hosahalli Main Road, Padarayanapura, Devaraj Urs Nagar, Jagjivanram Nagar, V.S. Garden, Vijayanagar, and several others. Officials advised residents to prepare in advance for the scheduled outages, particularly businesses, schools, and healthcare facilities that rely on continuous electricity.
BESCOM stated that the planned HTLS conductor installation and other upgrades are critical to strengthening Bengaluru’s electricity infrastructure, preventing sudden blackouts, and ensuring consistent power supply for the city’s growing demand. These measures are also expected to enhance long-term grid stability and electricity quality, supporting sustainable energy management across the region. Experts in urban energy infrastructure highlighted that such planned interruptions, though inconvenient, are essential to maintain a zero-carbon, efficient, and resilient urban electricity system. Scheduled maintenance ensures older networks are upgraded with modern technology, reducing energy loss and mitigating environmental impact from unplanned outages.
Residents were advised to take precautionary measures, including charging essential devices, planning household chores around outage hours, and using backup power solutions where necessary. Urban planners and energy experts note that transparent communication of power schedules allows citizens to adapt effectively, ensuring minimal disruption to daily life. BESCOM also indicated that continuous monitoring and phased implementation of infrastructure projects are key to balancing operational efficiency with public convenience. Officials reassured that all work will comply with safety and environmental standards, contributing to an eco-friendly and equitable energy distribution system across Bengaluru.
As Bengaluru continues to expand its energy grid to accommodate increasing urban demand, these power outage schedules reflect a proactive approach to modernising infrastructure, aligning with the city’s broader vision of sustainable urban living and reliable electricity services for residents and businesses alike.
